Garlan G. McTernan

Garlan G. McTernan departed this life at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 89.

He was born May 13, 1934, in Caruthersville, Missouri, to the late Garlan and Edna Buchanan McTernan.

He attended schools in Caruthersville, Missouri, and was a member of the 1952 Caruthersville High School Graduating Class.

On December 30, 1956, in Sikeston, Missouri, he was united in marriage, to the love of his life the late Wenzola McTernan.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Prior to his retirement he was employed as the Supervisor of Operations with the gas company in Blytheville, Arkansas, for over 40 years.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caruthersville, MO, and was active in the Caruthersville Jaycees and the Rotary Club. He enjoyed his western shows, fishing, wood working, and his family.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Helen & Bettye; and three brothers: Millard, Robert, & John.

He is survived by three daughters: Wenlan (William) Reno of Caruthersville, MO, Roblyn (Jeffrey) Melton of Farmington, MO, & Terri Ann (Denny) Callen of Caruthersville, MO; eight grandchildren: Erica Prater, Lara Knowlan, Chris Callen, Dexter Callen, Drayton Callen, Todd Hatch, Tiffany Drumright, & Allison Hatch; eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother in law: Herman “Dennie” Green; one nephew: David (Mary) Keith; and a number of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, MO, with Reverend Kenny Lee officiating. Interment followed in Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, MO. Pallbearers were Chris Callen, Drayton Callen, Brayden Prater, Todd Hatch, Logan Fisher, and Scott Foster.
