Dennis Lewis Spray

Dennis Lewis Spray was born in Cairo, Illinois, on July 16, 1949.

He departed this life at his home in Caruthersville, Missouri, on May 13, 2023.

He was the son of the late William Lewis Spray & Mildred Alberta McCain Spray.

Dennis was a graduate of the Orchard Farm, Missouri High School. He later attended Vo-Tech to receive his EMT training.

On June 11, 1970, in St. Louis, Missouri, he enlisted in the United States Army. On March 20, 1972, he re-enlisted and received his Honorable Discharge on November 27, 1974, in Ft. Gordon, Georgia.

Dennis was united in marriage to Loretta Ann Herren on November 15, 2000, in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

He worked as an EMT with the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Missouri, for many, many years prior to his retirement.

Dennis’s hobbies consisted of reading, woodworking, hiking, working crossword puzzles, playing games on his PlayStation, riding his motorcycle, and most importantly–spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to do numerous things.

He is survived by his wife: Loretta Spray of Caruthersville, Missouri; three children: Daphne Barber of Caruthersville, Missouri, Adam Thompson of Caruthersville, Missouri, & Daniel Thompson of Benton, Arkansas; 21 grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and many, many friends.

He waspreceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Mia Alexis Thompson.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 7:00 pm at the H. S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Reverend Kenny Lee officiating.
