Scott Duane Cheek

Born August 25, 1971, in Blytheville, Arkansas, Scott Duane Cheek was the middle child of Freda Chastain Cheek and Marvin Wayne Cheek and a member of the large Chastain family, all of whom love him dearly. After growing up in Caruthersville, Missouri, he graduated from Pope High School in Marietta, Georgia, in 1989.

Scott moved to Clanton, Alabama, 10 years ago from Hope, Arkansas, and for the past 9 ½ years he was the plant operations manager for Hatley Health Care. Scott was a reserve deputy sheriff with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Department and a volunteer with the Cedar Grove Fire Department in Clanton, just like his beloved grandfather, Bruce Edward Cheek, had been back home in Caruthersville. He attended the Samaria Baptist Church.

Scott departed this life on December 31, 2022, in Sevierville, Tennessee. He was 51 years old.

He is survived by his mother, Freda Cheek of Acworth, Georgia; his two children, Maddox Simmons, 13, and Aubreigh Simmons, 11, of Maplesville, Alabama; two brothers, Kevin Cheek of Concord, North Carolina, and Todd Cheek of Atlanta, Georgia; two nieces, Kelsee Simpson of Temecula, California, and Lauren Cheek of Concord, North Carolina; and one nephew, Drew Cheek of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Scott never met a stranger. He leaves behind a host of friends from everywhere he went and especially his “adopted” Shearon family…including Ashley.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the H. S. Smith Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Shane Wyatt of Samaria Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Hayti, Missouri. H. S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott’s honor to the Chilton County Reserve Program, 500 2nd Avenue N, Suite 204, Clanton, AL 35045.
