Naomi Jane (Cunningham) Long
Naomi Jane (Cunningham) Long, 95, born December 25, 1926, in Steele, MO, passed away on July 28, 2022 in Memphis, TN.
Naomi was the daughter of John Isaac and Ola Cunningham. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Braggadocio, MO. In 1948, Naomi married her high school sweetheart, Donald James Long. They welcomed their daughter, Donna Jean in December of 1949. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, and dancing. Naomi worked in the Administrative Office of the Pemiscot County school system for 27 years. Upon Donald’s passing in 1991, Naomi moved to Memphis to be closer to her daughter’s family.
Naomi is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Beck and Geneva Ottinger; the three were affectionately called “The Cunningham Girls.” She is also survived by her daughter, Donna (Long) Safley, her granddaughters, Elliot Boehm, Allison Warren and Carlie Baker, and seven great-grandchildren. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers (Kenneth and Gerald Cunningham) husband and son-in-law (Dr. Charles F. Safley, Jr.)
The family celebrated Naomi’s life with an intimate graveside funeral on August 2nd, 2022, at Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Dr. James Adams officiating.
