Lucy Mae Stubbs


Was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on October 24, 1918.

Departed this life at the Southgate Living Center in Caruthersville on October 12, 2020 at the age of 101, just 12 days shy of her 102nd birthday.

She was the daughter of the late James Earl Thrasher & Clara Mae Merrill Thrasher.

Attended the Caruthersville Schools.

Mrs Stubbs actually taught herself to sew at the age of 12.

On April 16, 1938 in Caruthersville she was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Verland Stubbs. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She and her husband owned and operated the Band Box Cleaners in Caruthersville for approximately forty years. She was known as an accomplished seamstress.

Mrs Stubbs was also a member of the Women’s Club and the Garden Club and an eighty-year member of the First Baptist Church of Caruthersville. She was a member First Baptist Church Kitchen Band.

She is survived by :

1 Daughter  –  Sandra Lynn Clark – Mt. Vernon, Illinois

1 Son  –  Robert Earl Stubbs & his wife Sherry of Wake Forest, North Carolina

7 Grandchildren – Kimberly Bunting, John Pawley, Paige Strawn, Amanda Austin, Jennifer Stubbs, Robert Stubbs and Clif Stubbs.

4 Great Grandchildren – Clara Pawley, Charles Bunting, Gabriella Austin and Crews Austin.

1 Sister – Peggy Sue Haley  –  Como, Mississippi

And a very special daughter, Brenda Collins, of Caruthersville.

Along with a number of other relatives and friends.

Mrs Stubbs was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Jana Delaine Sweeney, on July 10, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and 3 sons-in-law. And by a best friend – Lena Bradford.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 1:00 PM in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.
