Gideon Wilson “G.W.” Fox

Gideon Wilson “G.W.” Fox was born June 3, 1929 to the late Wilson and Lucille Adams Fox from Caruthersville, Missouri. He was a long-time member of the First Christian Church and loved the Lord with all his heart. He departed this life on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the age of 90.

He was born and raised in Caruthersville, graduating from high school in 1947. In August 1948, G.W. joined the U.S. Navy, where he was in charge of the aviation storeroom, served as a lifeguard and played basketball for the Saufley Field Indians in Pensacola, Florida. He earned a good conduct medal before his honorable discharge in 1952. He worked for Ark-Mo Power, AP&L and what is now Entergy, retiring after 45 years.

G.W. was an adoring husband, father and Papa. He loved his roses and pets, enjoying barbecuing, hunting, golf, and pulling shenanigans with his family and friends, and treasured fishing at Reelfoot Lake State Park.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Lou Wheeler, daughters, Cindy (Woody) Sigmin and Gaye Fox, grandchildren, Brooke (Joe) Sarrio, Austin (Brittney) Malone and Lindsay (Sean) Murphy, sister, Peggy Lou Johnson, eight great-grandchildren, Charlie, Lucy and Grace Sarrio, Mattie Malone, and Sarah, Liza, Easton, and McCartney Murphy, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Shirley Ann Fox and Ronald Howard Fox, and his best friend and brother-in-law, Billy “Bill” Glisson Simmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Wesleyan Church, 2601 Playground Road, Caruthersville, MO 63830. A family celebration of G.W.’s life will follow at a later date.
