Gene Reno

Herbert Eugene “Gene” Reno was born February 23, 1934 in Dyersburg, Tennessee.  He was the son of the late Charles Stephen Reno and Mary Lillie Childress Reno.

He departed this life in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 17, 2020. He was 86 years old.

Gene worked at Brown Shoe for many years.  He later went to work at the Shipyard as a crane operator.

Gene loved fishing, camping, country music and the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was known as one of the best jitterbug dancers around.

Survived by – 4 daughters – Gloria Kersey – Caruthersville, MO

-Kathy Reno Ward – Jonesboro, AR

-Rhonda Reno – Caruthersville, MO

-Shonda Reno – Caruthersville, MO

6 grandchildren – Landon Kersey, Joshua Meyer, Carmen Grace Hollywood, Autumn Elizabeth Hollywood, Makayla Nicole Reno, Olivia Marie Green

3 great grandchildren – Kasen Kersey, McCurry and Ellis Meyer

His very special friend and mother of Rhonda and Shonda– Thresa Herren

The mother of Gloria and Kathy – Ann Reno Thornton

He was preceded in death by his parents – Charles and Mary Reno, 3 brothers – William Earl Reno, Charles Reno, Bob Reno, and 3 sisters – Billie Jean, Olive Campbell, Mary Dunavant, and a grandson – Randy Kersey, who he had a very close and loving relationship with.

Funeral services were held April 20 in the H.S. Smith Chapel with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.  Interment in Maple Cemetery.

The family request that memorials be given to C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation (2755 Commercial St. SE, Suite 101 Salem, OR 97302) or to the American Heart Association.
