Elbert Lee Jordan, Sr.

Elbert Lee Jordan, Sr. was born August 15, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Thomas and Clotee Jordan.   Elbert Jordan, Sr. departed this life at the age of 75 on October 20, 2020, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  He attended Coleman Douglas Grammar School and Dunbar High School in Chicago, IL.

He accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of his father the late Bishop Thomas Jordan.  Elbert, Sr. relocated to Caruthersville, MO where he was united in Holy Matrimony to the LaVerne Jordan on Aptil 24, 1971.

Elbert, Sr. was proceded in death by his parents Bishop Thomas and Mother Clotee Jordan.  His loving wife of 44 years the late LaVerne Jordan. Two brothers; Franklin Jordan, Thomas (Gwen) Jordan. One brother-in-law; Michael Barker. Three sisters; Tonya Jordan, Althea Larkin, Evelyn Hampton and sisters-in-law; Cecilia, Dedra Jordan and Carolyn Watts.

Elbert Jordan, Sr. worked for Trinity Marine as a welder for over 30 years until retiring.  He also worked at Nucor Steel in Blytheville, Arkansas, taxi driver in Caruthersville, and an insurance agent in Chicago.

Elbert Sr. was  a devoted member of Pentecostal Power New Life Deliverance Temple in Caruthersville while serving under the late Bishop James and Mother Lane and current Bishop Tommy and First Lady Shirley Cobb.  Elbert Sr. served as the head Deacon, Brotherhood choir, Church Board Member and Usher Board.  Elbert Sr. was saved for over 50 years.

Deacon Jordan leaves to cherish his memories four sisters, Mary Lee Jordan, Helen (Joseph) Reynolds, Barbara Ann (Jessie) Prather, and Annie Mae Jordan.  One sister-in-law Elaine Kane. Seven brothers; David Jordan, Otis (Bernadine) Jordan, Napoleon (Sandra) Jordan, Robert Jordan, Gabriel (Karen) Jordan, Jimmy  (Tanya) Jordan, and Eugene (Gail) Jordan.  Two brothers-in-law – James and Franklin (Idella) Barker.  Four sons; Elbert (Vernita) Jordan, Victor (Rochelle) Jordan, Maurice (Dawn) Jordan. Honorary son, Randy (Melissa) Rodgers. Four daughters; Kenyetta Jordan, Iesha Jordan, Sierra Jordan and Teressa Jordan.  Deacon Elbert and LaVerne Jordan, Sr. also were parents to many foster children for over 25 years.  The couple cherished 20 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to honor his special friends; Elder Elam May, Bro Ulysses Robinson, Jr, Elder Phedentry Bell, Bishop Jessie PratherSr., Deacon Harold Thomas Sr., Bro. Cortez Murchison, and the late Clarence Washington, Sr., and the entire Watts’s family.
