Bennie B. Hilburn

Bennie B. Hilburn was born in Golddust, Tennessee, on March 15, 1932. He was the son of Isom Hilburn and Gracie Green Hilburn.

He departed this life in Steele, Missouri, on October 19, 2023. He was 91 years old.

Bennie was united in marriage to Minnie Bell King on January 19, 1951, in Caruthersville, Missouri. She preceded him in death.

Bennie was a hard worker. After “retiring” from farming, he worked as a security guard and then as a bus driver.

His greatest love in life was his family. He always defended the grandkids and greats so they didn’t get into trouble with their parents. He loved being known as Grandpa and Pops!

He is survived by six children: Bobby Hilburn (Lesa) of Searcy, Arkansas, Dorothy Schoolcraft (Kevin) of North Carolina, Diane Tomlin (Rick) of Steele, Missouri, Billy Hilburn of Wappapello, Missouri, Jo Ann Hilburn of Kennett, Missouri, & Mary Hilburn of Steele, Missouri; two brothers: Stephen & Billy Ray; one twin sister: Bonnie Fennell; 20 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 41 great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons – Tony & Davy, one great granddaughter – Brittany Ganus, six brothers and five sisters.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 10:00 am at the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Brother Danny Rigney officiating. Interment to follow in Maple Cemetery.
