Elizabeth Burnett

 

ELIZABETH BURNETT

 

 

Was born in Broadmore, Tennessee on June 4, 1931.

Departed this life at the Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Home in Hayti, Missouri on September 1, 2017 at the age of 86.

She was the daughter of the late Elihue Kennedy & Julia Ann Thurmond Kennedy.

Attended schools in New Madrid County, Missouri.

On January 10, 1946 in Piggott, Arkansas she was united in marriage to Mr. John Jewell Burnett. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1984.

Mrs. Burnett was a charter member of the Temple Baptist Church, where she was very active. Taking care of the nursery was just one of many tasks that she took care of.

She enjoyed shopping, gardening and going to dances.

Mrs. Burnett was employed by the Brown Shoe Company for over 41 years prior to her retirement. She was also the secretary for Woodmen of America.

SURVIVED BY –

3 Sons              -  Cletus Burnett & his wife, Carol, of Hayti, Missouri

                              Chester Burnett & his wife, Linda, of Caruthersville, Missouri

                              Barry Burnett & his wife, Brenda, of Caruthersville.

7 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandsons, & 7 Great Grand-daughters.

1 Sister                 Martha Kennedy & her husband, Steve, of Woodstock, Georgia

1 Brother             Lonnie Kennedy & his wife, Debbie, of Hayti.

& A number of other relatives and many friends.

She was also preceded in death by 1 Brother, John Kennedy, and 1 Sister, Marcell Jackson.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Pilcher officiating. The interment was in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville. Pall-Bearers were: Mike Griffin, Jay Stricklin, Landon Stricklin, Eddie McElyea, Derrick Burnett and Matt Kennedy. The H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
