Norma Sue Turnage

Norma Sue Turnage was born March 6, 1944 in Wardell, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Lawrence Atwood and Mary Belle Hatley Atwood.

She departed this life in Murray, Kentucky on July 26, 2017.  She was 73 years old.

Norma attended the Wardell school system and graduated as valedictorian with the class of 1962.  She made straight A’s all though school.  After graduating, she received a Presidential Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri University.

She was married to Mr. John A. Turnage and they had two children.

Norma was always a hard worker.  She worked at lots of different places including the Bank of Hayti, Turnage Auto Parts, Big John’s Dairy Queen, and Turnage Brothers Grain Elevator.  John Turnage was the Pemiscot County Treasurer and in reality, Norma ran the office for the 8 years he served.  She worked for 28 years at the Consolidated Public Water office as the office manager.  She was very instrumental in helping to revive the Hayti Nutrition Center, where you would often find her enjoying talking and laughing with everyone there.  She enjoyed traveling and really enjoyed keeping up with everything and everyone via Facebook. All of these jobs were important to her but nothing was more important than her family especially her grandchildren.

She was a very faithful and hardworking member of Hayti First Baptist Church.
