James Ralph Murphy​

James Ralph Murphy was born September 5, 1929 in Caruthersville, Missouri.  He was the son of Clarence “Pat” Murphy and Myrtle Anderson Murphy.

He departed this life at his home on January 4, 2017 at the age of 87 years.

On January 6, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas he was united in marriage to Wynona Allen.  She preceded him in death on April 8, 2015.

James Ralph served Pemiscot County for 28 years as the Recorder of Deeds.  He was also a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.  He also was a successful farmer.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He loved to fish and hunt on the Mississippi River.

Survived by – 1 daughter – Renee Baker and her husband, Ben-Caruthersville, Missouri

3 granddaughters – Loren Baker-Caruthersville, Missouri


Anna Strawn and her husband, Shane-Hayti, Missouri

1 great granddaughter – Ava Grace Dunavant

Other relatives and many, many friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his son-James (Jim) Ralph Murphy, Jr.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. in Little Prairie with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.  

Pall bearers:  Ben Baker, Jim Young, Shane Strawn, Earl Bullington, Thomas and Martin Buchanan
