Hal Gene Malin

Hal Gene Malin went to be with the Lord on December 27, 2016 after a 14 year journey through Alzheimer’s.  He was born on November 22, 1932 to Lee and Flora Malin in Malden, Missouri.  The family moved to Caruthersville in 1935 and Gene graduated from Caruthersville High School in 1950.  Gene joined the U.S. Air Force and served abroad for 4 years.  Upon returning to Caruthersville to work in the family candy business, he met a beautiful young lady at the public swimming pool on 5th Street and he and Mary Nell McCulloch were married on September 1, 1956.  They had two daughters, Deborah Denice and Allison Renee.  Mary Nell and Gene lived in Caruthersville and were active members in First Christian Church and then the Church of God.  Gene started his own business selling commercial cleaning products then transitioned into selling specialty items imprinted with advertising.  This led to Gene designing a double cotton boll that he printed on all kinds of items (shirts, hats, glasses, pins, ties).  People loved his cotton boll merchandise and it became one of the things for which he was well known.  Gene loved the Lord since he was a young man, taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.  He was president of the draft board during the early 1970’s and was a member of Kiwanis.   He loved his family and enjoyed Cardinals baseball and big band music.  He was generous, cheerful and kind.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Tony Maddox of Port St. Lucie, FL, his daughter and son-in-law Allison and Karl Stoyer of Perry, FL, his granddaughter, grandson-in-law and great grandson Alyssa, Chris and Mark Richardson of Cordova, TN, his step-granddaughter, step-grandson-in-law and great grandson Ciera Stoyer de Garcia, Martin and Jaith Garcia of Perry, FL, step-granddaughter Ashton Stoyer of Tallahassee, FL, his niece Kay Malin Snow, his niece and nephew-in-law Mary and Dave Lewelling, his niece and nephew-in-law Christy and Bill Mercer and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Mary Nell, his parents and eleven siblings preceded him in death.
