Melissa Ann Buchanan

Melissa was born on February 12, 1953 in Hayti, Missouri.  She was the daughter of Jefferson Gilbert “Mutt” Buchanan and Mary Pierce Buchanan Dones.

She departed this life at her home in Jackson, Tennessee on Saturday, December 3, 2016.  She was 63 years old.

Melissa attended the Caruthersville School System graduating with the class of 1971.  She had the honor of being chosen as Cotton Blossom Queen that year.

After high school, Melissa attended Murray State University and then the University of Tennessee where she received her R.N. in nursing.  She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, she also worked as an oncologist nurse, before ending her nursing career working for the state of Tennessee.

Melissa was a “huge” University of Tennessee football fan.  If you saw her living room or bedroom, you would know that the Vols were her passion.  She also loved to shop.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survived by – 2 sisters – Martha McClanahan – West Memphis, Arkansas

 

Christy Collier and her husband, John – Wynne, Arkansas

2 nieces – Julie Rogerson and her husband, Kirk

 

Alison Morrison and her husband, Matt

3 nephews – Baker McClanahan and his wife, Tara

 

Jeff McClanahan and his wife, Pam

Jason McCabe and his wife, Angela

A very special friend and caretaker – Debbie Randolph Williams

Several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was proceeded in death by her father – Mutt Buchanan, her mother – Mary Dones, and her step-father – R.P. Dones.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Boyd officiating.  Interment was in Maple Cemetery.
