Theo Thompson


Theo was born March 20, 1923, in Braggadocio, Missouri.  He was the son of John Thompson and Grace Benson Thompson.

He departed this life in Blytheville, Arkansas on August 28, 2016.  He was 93 years old.

Theo proudly served his county as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.  He received many honors during his service-Asia Pacific Campaign Medal, United Nations Medal, United Nations Service Medal with 3 knots, National Defense Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.  He served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years.

On April 17, 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army in Fort Benning, Georgia.  He received his honorable discharge on April 30, 1962.  He served in the Korean War.  During his service to his county as a member of the U.S. Army he received these honors-Korean Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit, and Korean War Victory Medal.  He served for 14 years.

After 20 years total in the United States Military, Theo went to work for the Colson Company as a punch press operator.  He retired in 1985.

Theo was a huge St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Survived by – 3 sons - Ronnie Thompson – Huntsville, Alabama

Dennis Thompson – Mobile, Alabama

Randall Thompson – Blytheville, Arkansas

1 daughter – Barbara Ward – Jack’s Creek, Tennessee

10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, many other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents – John and Grace Thompson, his wife – Louis Mitchell Thompson, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and a great granddaughter – Valerie Thompson

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the H.S. Smith Funeral Chapel.  Brother Charles Ward officiating.  Interment followed in Maple Cemetery with full military honors.

Pall bearers:  Jeffery Thompson, Randall Thompson, Jason Thompson, Peyton Thompson, Justin Plunk, Kenny Ward.
