Mae Helen Smith

Mother Mae Helen Smith went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 15, 2018 at 1:18 p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Mother Mae Helen Smith was born to the late Willie Earl Jones and Pearline Jones in Vielda, Tennessee on October 25, 1951.  Mother Mae Helen was the third eldest of nine children.  She was raised in Tennessee until her family moved to Missouri.  She attended elementary, middle, and high school in Caruthersville, Missouri and received her GED in 1970.  In 1973, she married the late Coy Smith, Sr. at the Pentecostal Power Church in Caruthersville, Missouri.  In 1976, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and became an active member of the Pentecostal Power Church and was a member for over 42 years under the leadership of the Late Presiding Bishop James L. Lane, Sr.

She obtained the Licensed Practical Nurse credential in 1985 and scored the highest score in her class.  She also had two years of college where she received honors.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 30 years until she retired in 2009.  She loved her patients and the staff that she worked with at both Caruthersville and Hayti Nursing homes.  She had a friend, Mary Wilson, whom she cared for dearly and they met and worked together for many years.  She had another great friend, her mother, Ms. Pearline Jones, whom she talked to on a daily basis.

Mother Mae Helen was a loving mother of eight children and five of those children were from her union with the late Coy Smith, Sr. who went home to be with the Lord in 2000.  Her children are Johnny Jones, Kevin Jones, Angela Jones (who preceded her in death), Carolyn Bell, Elizabeth Smith, Coy L. Smith, Jr., Cheryl Morgan, and Kimberly Smith.  She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and biological and church families dearly, and she proved this unconditional love for them on a daily basis.  Mother Mae Helen wore many hats throughout her life-she was a daughter, sister, aunt, mentor, confidante, caregiver, lover, friend, a Great Mother and a Faithful Saint.  Mother Mae Helen was also a member of the Mother’s Board at New Life Deliverance Temple Pentecostal Power Church.

Mother Mae Helen Smith was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father Willie Earl Jones, her brother Willie Lee Jones, Sr., and a host of other relatives.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her mother, Ms. Pearline Jones of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, seven siblings Roberta Geiger and Dorothy Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Martha Taylor (Edward) of Hayti, Missouri, Charles Jones (Linda) and Marie Jordan (Robert) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Michael Jones (Loretta) of Evans, Georgia and Marvin Jones (Corinthia) of Caruthersville, Missouri, one sister-in-law Georgia Mae Smith and one brother-in-law Silas Smith of Caruthersville, Missouri and seven children Johnny Jones (Markeida) of Fort Meade, Maryland, Kevin Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Carolyn Bell of Hayti, Missouri, Elizabeth Smith of Caruthersville, Missouri, Coy L. Smith, Jr. of Waldorf, Maryland, Cheryl Morgan of Del City, Oklahoma, and Kimberly Smith of Caruthersville, Missouri and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, close friends and saints at her beloved church.  Mother Mae Helen Smith will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
